# Journalists say Almiron ‘didn’t take chance’ in 1-0 defeat

[Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Everton](https://www.nufc.co.uk/matches/first-team/2021-22/everton-v-newcastle-united/) on Thursday and Miguel Almiron was one of many players who underperformed. The 28-year-old hasn’t played much football of late but was handed a second consecutive start by Eddie Howe. Unfortunately, he didn’t vindicate the decision and ended up being hooked in the second half after failing to make a telling impact.

*Jordan Cronin* of [Newcastle World](https://www.newcastleworld.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/not-his-finest-performance-newcastle-united-player-ratings-from-shock-defeat-to-10-man-everton-3616568?page=3) gave Almiron a player rating of 6/10 and said he ‘lacked quality’ despite putting in a lot of effort. *Gareth Cox* of [The National News](https://www.thenationalnews.com/sport/football/2022/03/18/everton-vs-newcastle-player-ratings-gray-4-iwobi-7-guimaraes-7-wood-5/) gave the Paraguayan international a player rating of 6/10 and was critical of how frequently he went down to challenges. *Lee Ryder* of [Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-1-0-newcastle-player-23419028) gave him a player rating of 6/10 and said it wasn’t a surprise he was subbed, even if he worked hard. *Tom Gott* of [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/everton-1-0-newcastle-player-ratings-late-iwobi-strike-seals-scrappy-win) gave Almiron a player rating of 5/10 but praised one dribble he had before being taken off.

[Against Everton](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1549734/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022-Everton-Newcastle-United), the 28-year-old played for 70 minutes, had 40 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 88.9% of his 27 passes, created one chance, had one shot which didn’t hit the target, whipped in one cross which failed to find a teammate, made three tackles, gave away one foul and had two successful dribbles.

Almiron has made [24 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/miguel-almiron/leistungsdaten/spieler/272999) in all competitions this season, failing to score or make an assist. His future at St James’ Park hangs in the balance.
