# Media react to Callum Wilson’s ‘dreadful’ injury blow

Newcastle United have [suffered](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastles-callum-wilson-injury-update-26158155?1=) an injury blow ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League meeting with Everton – Callum Wilson has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The 29-year-old was recovering from a calf injury but has suffered a setback which could keep him sidelined until the final few games of the campaign. Fans on social media lamented the news and notable media figures conceded it was ‘dreadful’ for the Magpies.

[Ben Dinnery](https://twitter.com/BenDinnery/status/1490627635743010818?s=20&t=ognX_qnSa2TRAFQlMKL-kA) of *Premier Injuries* described the injury as ‘bad news’, as Wilson had just come off crutches before the setback. [Andrew Musgrove](https://twitter.com/ADMusgrove/status/1490638235017617408?s=20&t=ognX_qnSa2TRAFQlMKL-kA) of *Chronicle Live* called the news a ‘big blow’ and said it overshadowed Dan Ashworth’s arrival at technical director.

[Chris Waugh](https://twitter.com/ChrisDHWaugh/status/1490626524478857219?s=20&t=ognX_qnSa2TRAFQlMKL-kA) of *The Athletic* said Wilson’s absence is a ‘significant blow’ because Newcastle didn’t sign another striker in January like Eddie Howe wanted. [Lee Ryder](https://twitter.com/lee_ryder/status/1490629306313289738?s=20&t=ognX_qnSa2TRAFQlMKL-kA) of *Chronicle Live* also noted how Newcastle’s failure to sign a centre-forward has come back to bite them.

[Simon Bird](https://twitter.com/SimonBird_/status/1490633178129829891?s=20&t=ognX_qnSa2TRAFQlMKL-kA) of the *Daily Mirror* said was a ‘dreadful update’ to give. Newcastle are 19th in the Premier League and 17th in the table for goals (21), so it could harm their hopes of survival not having their top scorer available – the 29-year-old has six goals from [15 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/leistungsdaten/verein/762) this season.
