Fans on social media say ‘brilliant’ Fabian Schar was ‘solid’ in Leeds win

Newcastle United ended their five-game winless run in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday and Fabian Schar was praised for playing his part in keeping the Magpies’ second clean sheet of the season.

The 30-year-old made more clearances than any of his teammates and only one player won more aerial duels, so Schar was deserving of his 9/10 player rating from Chronicle Live. Fans on social media lauded his efforts too.

Against Leeds, Schar played for 90 minutes, had 42 touches, won four aerial duels, completed 50% of his 26 passes, made nine clearances, found a teammate with 22% of his long-range balls, made one tackle, blocked two shots and had two interceptions.

The Switzerland international has made 12 appearances in all competitions, notching one assist. Schar wasn’t a regular earlier in the season but has played in nine of Newcastle’s last 10 Premier League games and performances against Leeds show exactly why.

Next up for Newcastle is home meeting with Everton on February 8. They’re unbeaten in their last three and may fancy their chances against a managerless side coming off the back of four defeats and a draw from their last five league outings.

In other news, fans on social media praise ‘excellent’ Kieran Trippier for ‘fantastic’ showing

matchday.
