# Fans on social media say ‘brilliant’ Kieran Trippier is ‘a class above’

Newcastle United threw away a 1-0 lead against Watford in the dying minutes to [draw 1-1 at St James’ Park](https://www.nufc.co.uk/matches/first-team/2021-22/newcastle-united-v-watford/), but a number of players turned in good performances despite the setback. Kieran Trippier was one of them and [Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-player-ratings-watford-22765262) gave him a player rating of 7/10 for his contribution.

No Newcastle player had more touches, created more chances, blocked more shots, whipped in more accurate crosses or made more interceptions. Fans on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=trippier%20%23nufc&src=recent_search_click&f=live) have been impressed with Trippier since his surprise January move from Atletico Madrid and believe the 31-year-old is already one of the best right-backs Newcastle have ever had.

> Positive early morning vibes before week consumes me in transfer rumours, claim and counter claim, but Kieran Trippier is best full back I’ve seen at [#nufc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/nufc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) since.. actually I don’t think I’ve seen better. He is better in air than most CBs. Proper player as people used to say

> And Trippier us a class above. Can see why he's a la liga winner. Brilliant yesterday & a worthy captain. I just don't see Howe making that call & rocking the boat. He needs to be ruthless. And also needs 3-4 more quality players to help/improve the team quickly.

> I said the same to the lad on Saturday – Trippier is a class above anything else [#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) have in the squad.\

> He’s head and shoulders above. By far our best. He should be our captain now too. He’s a leader [#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Agree Luke. Levels above anyone else. Let’s hope we can get a few more close to or at his level for the Leeds match

> He has potential to be a great captain too… always talking and organising. Also… how does he win so many headers? It was like he had springs on his boots!!! [#nufc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/nufc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> He’s brilliant, you can see the difference in quality to the rest of the squad, it’s huge. Do you see any signings happening in the next few days, Luke?

> Trippier is brilliant, he commands the defence. Reads the game brilliantly, but even he can’t shore up that defence. We lack creativity. Still need more a CB n CM min.. but we should have won that. [#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
