# Fans on social media ‘like the idea’ of Newcastle signing ‘brilliant’ Aaron Ramsey

Newcastle United are 20th in the [Premier League](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/8618/Stages/19793/TeamStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022) for possession (37.1%), 16th for pass completion (74.7%) and 16th for chances created per game (8), so they could benefit from signing a midfielder that can keep the ball and make opportunities for teammates.

Eddie Howe has Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Jeff Hendrick at his [disposal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/ausfallzeiten/verein/762), but Shelvey has been inconsistent, Willock has been short of form and Hendrick doesn’t command a starting place, so *Calciomercato* (h/t [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/player-making-wall-towards-newcastle-united-not-keen-joining-magpies/)) say Newcastle are looking at Aaron Ramsey. Fans on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=ramsey%20%23nufc&src=recent_search_click&f=live) are delighted at the prospect of him arriving.

> Can we get Arron Ramsey as well please [@NUFC](https://twitter.com/NUFC?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) as I think he’d play well off Chris wood! [#nufc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/nufc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Please go and get Tarkowski, Digne, Cantwell and Ramsey now. That would be amazing [#nufc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/nufc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Always like the idea of Ramsey. If a deal was in the pipeline, it's just our luck for it to be held up by covid. Let's hope something happens next week on this one. Palace strongly linked too.

> Would be a brilliant signing for us. In the middle pulling strings, haven’t had a player like that for ages.

The 31-year-old could be on his way out of Juventus this month after falling down the [pecking order](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/juventus-turin/ausfallzeiten/verein/506) under Massimiliano Allegri. Ramsey, who’s made just [five appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-ramsey/leistungsdaten/spieler/50057) in all competitions this season, finds himself behind Manuel Locatelli, Weston McKennie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Arthur and Adrien Rabiot, so Newcastle could capitalise on the situation.

Crystal Palace are battling the Magpies for Ramsey’s signature, but the North-East outfit can below the Eagles out of the water financially after their [takeover](https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/pif-pcp-capital-partners-and-rb-sports-media-acquire-newcastle-united-football-club/) by Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, so that could make the difference.
