# Fans on social media say Newcastle’s interest in Chris Wood is ‘what we need’

Newcastle United are 17th in the [Premier League](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/England-Premier-League) for goals (19) and will be without their top scorer for nearly two months due to [injury](https://twitter.com/SkySports_Keith/status/1479875339006451719). Callum Wilson has been ruled out until March, so the Magpies are going to sign a replacement striker before the [January transfer window](https://www.givemesport.com/1754870-january-transfer-window-2022-when-does-it-open-when-does-it-close-and-which-players-are-going-to-move) shuts.

*Luke Edwards* of the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/01/09/newcastle-transfer-news-burnleys-chris-wood-latest-target-search/?utm_content=football&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1641728279) says Newcastle are interested in Chris Wood and hope to bring him to St James’ Park this month. The 30-year-old plays for relegation rivals Burnley, however, so there could be some resistance from the Clarets. Despite this, fans on [social media](https://twitter.com/TeleFootball/status/1480141799830212610) are open to the move.

> Would go for this. Upgrade on Gayle for sure. All about this piece by piece over time.

> He has proven his Premier League quality. Contract up in summer 2023, and he has given Burnley good service. At 30, I don't think they would stand in his way if he wants a new challenge at this stage of his career.

> I'd take him. Exactly what we need. A battler. If he was up front yesterday he would have put some of them chances away and we'd still be in the cup.

> Not a chance Burnley would let him go to a relegation rival and if they did it would be well over priced, although i think he would be a great addition this is a non story.

> I absolutely wouldn't be against this! I said this at start. It's all abilout building and you improve on what you have every time. He's better then gayle in this league also.
