Newcastle United were eliminated from the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday after losing 1-0 at home to Cambridge United and Martin Dubravka was one of many players criticised for his performance. Chronicle Live gave him a player rating of 4/10 and blamed him for Cambridge’s winning goal.
The 32-year-old was beaten to the ball in the build-up to United’s winner and stayed on the floor while his defenders failed to clear and Joe Ironside fired home. Fans on social media weren’t impressed with the lack of courage and let him know.
Dubravka has made eight appearances in all competitions this season, conceding 16 goals and keeping only one clean sheet. He missed the beginning of the campaign due to injury, but fans don’t believe he’s been anywhere near his best since returning.
The Slovakian international has let in 40% of the 35 shots on target faced in the Premier League and is shipping more than two goals per game on average, so he’s not doing the best job of keeping opponents quiet. His defence aren’t protecting him either, so may it be two areas Eddie Howe looks to strengthen soon?
