Fans on social media blast ‘terrible’ Fabian Schar and call him ‘awful’

Newcastle United suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat to Cambridge United in Saturday’s FA Cup third round clash and Fabian Schar was one of many players who underperformed. Chronicle Live gave the 30-year-old a player rating of 4/10 and were critical of the part he played in Cambridge’s winner.

Schar was slow dealing with a through ball into the box, his headed clearance was weak, and he turned his back on the shot from Joe Ironside that hit the back of the net. Unsurprisingly, fans on social media weren’t happy his contribution and let him know.

The 30-year-old has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, notching one assist. He’s had more bookings (2) than victories (1) and clean sheets (1) in 2021/22, suffering five defeats and conceding 19 goals.

Since joining Newcastle on a four-year deal from Deportivo La Coruna in 2018, Schar has made a total of 84 appearances across the board, scoring seven goals with two assists. And despite being a 69-cap Swiss international, his performances aren’t cutting in.

Schar has been in and out of the starting lineup this campaign due to inconsistent form, so his long-term future at St James’ Park may be in doubt. Fans are starting to lose their patience and Eddie Howe won’t have been happy with his display either.
