Newcastle United are 19th in the Premier League table for points (10), 20th for goals conceded (41), 18th for defeats (10), 19th for clean sheets (1) and joint-19th for shots faced per game (15.9), so it’s clear they need to strengthen the defence.
Eddie Howe has Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez at his disposal, but all four centre-backs have come in for criticism this season so a new face might be brought in when the winter transfer window opens.
At the beginning of November, Christian Falk of SportBild reported that Newcastle were interested in Niklas Sule and the Bayern Munich defender was keen on joining the project.
Sky Germany recently reported that Sule could depart the Allianz Arena in January or the following summer when his contract expires and Newcastle fans on social media are excited at the prospect of potentially signing him.
Sule joined Bayern on a five-year deal from Hoffenheim in 2017 and has gone on to make 155 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals with four assists. The 26-year-old has managed 22 appearances across the board this season, but Sky Germany say he doesn’t feel valued and won’t extend his deal beyond 2022 as a result.
Bayern could cash in on Sule in January to avoid losing him for free next summer, but it remains to be seen if Newcastle lead the race for his signature.
