Newcastle United are spoilt for choice in midfield with Isaac Hayden, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Jonjo Shelvey and Jeff Hendrick at their disposal, but the Magpies are expected to bolster their engine room when the winter transfer window opens.
Newcastle tried to sign Boubacar Kamara from Olympique Marseille without success last summer and will return for the 22-year-old in January, says Martin Hardy of The Times. Kamara is out of contract at the Stade Velodrome next year, so he could be available on a free transfer.
It appears fans on social media wouldn’t mind Kamara being a Newcastle signing.
The 6ft defensive midfielder rose through the youth ranks to Marseille’s first-team, making 141 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals with five assists. Kamara has been a regular under Jorge Sampaoli this season, featuring in 19 games across the board, but his future is uncertain.
L’OM are trying to tie the 22-year-old down to a new deal but aren’t having much luck and The Athletic say he’s expected to leave for nothing in the coming months.
Newcastle are one of the richest clubs in Europe following their takeover by the Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, so they have the resources to beat out competition for Kamara.
