# Fans on social media praise ‘brilliant’ Ryan Fraser for ‘fantastic’ performance

[Newcastle United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool](https://www.nufc.co.uk/matches/first-team/2021-22/liverpool-v-newcastle-united/) on Thursday, but there were a number of players who put in a good performance at Anfield. Ryan Fraser was one of them and vindicated Eddie Howe’s decision to start him, resulting in fans on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=ryan%20fraser&src=typed_query&f=live) showering him in praise.

The 27-year-old has spent most of the season on the bench and as an unused substitute due to inconsistent form and fitness woes. Fraser had [started](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-fraser/leistungsdaten/spieler/146795/saison/2021/plus/1) only four Premier League games this season prior to the Liverpool clash but may keep his place when Manchester City come to St James’ Park on Sunday.

> To be fair I thought he had a excellent game! Always running and trying to get us further up the pitch. I’d drop ASM to bench and start Fraser and Miggy on the wings. And J7 behind Wilson.

> Thought he played well, hopefully stays injury free now, improves as there is a player there!

> On the flip side, Ryan Fraser had a brilliant game for NUFC. Should be one for opposition managers to keep an eye on. [#LIVNEW](https://twitter.com/hashtag/LIVNEW?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> At one point last night Fraser was pressing in their third, the ball was passed to the CB and Fraser went nuts because ASM wasn't pressing.\

> Give ASM a match on the bench and let him see Wilson, Joe, Fraser and Miggy press, might wake him up a bit.[#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

[Against Liverpool](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1549707/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022-Liverpool-Newcastle-United), Fraser played for 86 minutes, had 27 touches, completed 53.3% of his 15 passes, whipped in two crosses, made one tackle, had three interceptions, made one clearance, gave away one foul and won two freekicks.

The Scotland international, who’s scored four goals with seven assists in [22 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-fraser/nationalmannschaft/spieler/146795) for his country, has made [13 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-fraser/leistungsdaten/spieler/146795/saison/2021/plus/1) in all competitions, notching one assist. Fraser hasn’t had the best campaign, but he might get a run of games now after impressing on Merseyside. Fans certainly hope so.
