# Fans on social media react as Newcastle are linked with Georginio Wijnaldum

Newcastle United are overstocked in midfield with Isaac Hayden, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Jonjo Shelvey, Matty Longstaff and Jeff Hendrick at their disposal, but [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/gini-wijnaldum-offered-on-loan-several-premier-league-clubs) say they could be adding to their engine room.

The Magpies sold Georginio Wijnaldum to Liverpool just one year after signing him but could be bringing him back to St James’ Park in January, much to the excitement of some supporters on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=newcastle%20wijnaldum&src=recent_search_click&f=live) and the bemusement of others.

> The season we went down Wijnaldum was by far our best player, he totally deserved his move to Liverpool. How good though would it be if he now came back and this time helped us survive, leading us on the way to our brighter future.Nice little story that would be [@GWijnaldum](https://twitter.com/GWijnaldum?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Not for me. To borrow a cricket phrase, Wijnaldum is a “flat track bully”. Looks great when in a good team or things are going well, not someone [#nufc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/nufc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) can trust for a dogfight. Not getting delusional about players we should sign, but rather someone with less talent but reliable.

Wijnaldum has an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain after struggling for consistent playing time under Mauricio Pochettino. The 31-year-old has made [20 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdaten/spieler/49499) in all competitions this season but has started only half those games and has amassed a paltry 669 minutes of Ligue 1 football from a possible 1530.

*90min* say Wijnaldum earns £300k-per-week at PSG so it’s unlikely a club would take him off the Parisians’ hands permanently, but a loan move could be on the cards in January. Everton, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Leicester City and Aston Villa have been offered the Netherlands international, but Newcastle do have the most lucrative resources now.

The Toon Army are the [richest club](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/12428222/newcastle-takeover-how-and-why-newcastle-are-on-the-verge-of-becoming-one-of-the-worlds-richest-football-clubs) in Europe following their takeover by Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, but would Wijnaldum really consider a return given Newcastle sit in the relegation zone?
