Fans on social media hail ‘superb’ Miguel Almiron for ‘class’ performance

Newcastle United finally got a win in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon after enduring a 14-game run without a victory. The Magpies beat Burnley 1-0 at St James’ Park and had the likes of Martin Dubravka, Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey to thank.

They weren’t the only players to impress, however, as Miguel Almiron was arguably the pick of the bunch and was given a player rating of 9/10 by Chronicle Live. The 27-year-old was a constant threat in attack and worked hard to win the ball back.

Almiron was the best passer out of all the players who started for Newcastle and was lauded by supporters on social media as a result.

Against Burnley, the Paraguayan international played for 84 minutes, had 40 touches, completed 81.8% of his 22 passes, had six shots, whipped in two crosses, made three tackles, gave away four fouls, had one successful dribble and won one freekick.

Almiron has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, amassing 827 minutes of football. He’s been inconsistent at times and is still without a goal or assist, but his performance against Burnley justifies his continued selection.
