# Fans on social media criticise ‘poor’ Emil Krafth for ‘hopeless’ performance

[Newcastle United suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal](https://www.nufc.co.uk/matches/first-team/2021-22/arsenal-v-newcastle-united/) on Saturday afternoon to stay bottom of the Premier League table after 13 games. Jamaal Lascelles and Joe Willock were criticised by supporters for their poor performance, but they weren’t the only ones.

Emil Krafth also struggled for the Magpies and was given a player rating of 5/10 by [Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/arsenal-newcastle-united-player-ratings-22295086) as a result. The 27-year-old, who hasn’t played a lot of football this season, was given a difficult afternoon by Emile Smith Rowe among others and fans on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=emil%20krafth&src=typed_query&f=live) didn’t let him forget it.

> We were better against Brentford, but yesterday we were back to stand off, no pressure, no fouls, long balls up to Wilson… it was poor. The 4 at the back didn't work.. Richie is woeful at LB at this level, Kraft and Lascelles on the right just got exploited time and again

> Need to really review what's happening at the back, build from the back and move forward, stop the rot at the back, but who exactly it would be is difficult, too many holes and poor decisions being made, need a leader and support from midfield, but not a fan of Krafth for sure

> I didn’t expect a result but that second half was woeful in terms of defending. Ritchie isn’t a left back, Krafth and Lascelles are absolutely poor and barely even championship quality. It’s sad to be happy about players getting suspended but that’s the state we’ve been left in

> Lascelles, krafth, Ritchie absolutely awful Wilson was very poor today too and willock is a waste of a shirt!

> Not great, Lascelles poor again, ASM useless without the ball, gives us nothing, Kraft looked like a passenger, Dubravka poor footwork 1st goal and bottled it for 2nd goal. It was away at Arsenal though, they are playing well ? Norwich game now is a must win 100%

> Na did u see how poor Krafth was also out of position yesterday

> Krafth and Lascelles are utterly hopeless. The latter has regressed so bad since Rafa, poor man's Titus Bramble.

[Against Arsenal](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1549659/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022-Arsenal-Newcastle-United), Krafth played for 90 minutes, had 49 touches, completed 83.3% of his 36 passes, whipped in one cross, made one tackle, blocked three shots, had two interceptions, gave away one foul, made one clearance and won one freekick.

The Swedish international has made only [seven appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emil-krafth/leistungsdaten/spieler/184528) in all competitions, amassing 544 minutes of playing time. He spent the first few weeks of the season largely as an unused substitute but has been a regular of late. Krafth’s poor performance against Arsenal might give Howe a decision to make, however.
