Newcastle United’s winless start in the Premier League continued following a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon and Jamaal Lascelles was one of many players criticised for his performance.
The 28-year-old captained the side at centre-back as Arsenal had 24 shots over the 90 minutes and was given a player rating of 5/10 by Chronicle Live.
Lascelles also picked up a fifth booking of the season and will be suspended for Newcastle’s next game, so it’s not surprising that supports on social media slated his contribution.
Against Arsenal, Lascelles played a full 90 minutes, had 51 touches, won one aerial duel, failed to block a shot, completed 82.1% of his 39 passes, failed to make a tackle, made eight clearances and failed to make an interception.
The 28-year-old has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal. He’ll miss the Magpies’ home clash with Norwich City on Tuesday evening, however, so Eddie Howe will be forced into a defensive change.
Ciaran Clark was on the bench against Arsenal and might be starting in Lascelles’ stead. Only a win will do as Newcastle sit rock bottom of the Premier League table with six points from a possible 39. They’re without a win in the league and have conceded 29 goals already.
