Newcastle United aren’t short of left-backs with Jamal Lewis, Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie at their disposal, but the Daily Mail say the Magpies are on the hunt for another – Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The 24-year-old has an uncertain future at Manchester City due to a lack of playing time this season and may be open to a loan move away if his situation doesn’t change.

Zinchenko was a regular for City during the second half of last season and greatly impressed, so he would improve Newcastle’s squad if acquired. Fans on social media believe he’d be a good addition too.

The Ukrainian international joined City from Ufa in 2016 and has gone on to make 106 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals with seven assists.

Zinchenko has made only 6/20 appearances across the board this season, however, spending most of his time on the bench or out of the matchday squad as Joao Cancelo is ahead in the pecking order.

Newcastle are hoping that will convince Zinchenko to move in January, but the Daily Mail note that he’s desperate to prove himself like he did last season. City would have to sign a replacement if the 24-year-old was let go too, so time will tell.
