# Fans on social media delight as Newcastle are linked with Kieran Trippier

Newcastle United aren’t short of options at right-back with Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo at their disposal, but the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-target-kieran-trippier-25527169) say they’re looking to upgrade in the position when the winter transfer window opens.

The Magpies are one of the [richest clubs](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/12428222/newcastle-takeover-how-and-why-newcastle-are-on-the-verge-of-becoming-one-of-the-worlds-richest-football-clubs) in Europe following their [takeover](https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/pif-pcp-capital-partners-and-rb-sports-media-acquire-newcastle-united-football-club/) by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, so a lucrative spend is expected with Newcastle sitting in the relegation zone.

The *Mirror* say Eddie Howe would like to make Kieran Trippier one of his first signings as manager, but it remains to be seen if the 31-year-old would be open to the switch.

Trippier [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kieran-trippier/transfers/spieler/95810) Atletico Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 and has gone on to make [83 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kieran-trippier/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/95810) in all competitions, notching 11 assists. The England international has been a regular under Diego Simeone, however, so it’s unknown why he would leave. Manchester United are interested too.

> Be a fantastic signing not just because of how he improves the team but he’d be our best set piece taker too

> Yes please. Get Trippier, a left back and a couple of midfielders then we'd be golden.

Supporters on [social media](https://twitter.com/NUFC360/status/1463194958773559307?s=20) are excited at the prospect of Trippier coming to St James’ Park, but would he be open to leaving the La Liga champions for a relegation-threatened club at the beginning of their project?
