# Fans on social media react negatively as Newcastle are linked with Dean Henderson

Newcastle United aren’t short of goalkeepers with Martin Dubravka, Freddie Woodman, Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie at their disposal, but the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10188427/Manchester-United-keeper-Dean-Henderson-wants-leave-reclaim-No-1-spot.html) say they’re after another shot-stopper in Dean Henderson.

The 24-year-old has an uncertain future at Manchester United as he’s behind David De Gea in the pecking order and will leave Old Trafford if he continues to struggle for playing time.

Fans on [social media](https://twitter.com/NUFC360/status/1458733469522186242) aren’t too keen on Henderson coming to St James’ Park, however, as they believe Newcastle don’t need another goalkeeper while four are still on the books.

> Is Dean Henderson better than [#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) current goalkeepers? Yes.\
> \
> He would cost Ramsdale bunce, I am not sure we are at the stage yet.\
> \
> I believe [@FreddieWoodman](https://twitter.com/FreddieWoodman?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) is our man for the long term future or we need to find out if he is. \

> So no new GK's in Jan for me.

> Donny van de Beek would be next level, a midfielder who controls the tempo of the game is critically needed in our squad, we’ve lacked it for years. \

> Henderson on the other hand, I’m not too sure the goalkeeper situation is much of a top concern. [#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [https://t.co/YwpPEyfykA](https://t.co/YwpPEyfykA)

> What’s this obsession with the media linking us to goalkeepers? If Dubravka can stay fit we have other areas of the team far more in need of refreshing

> You know its all lies when you see papers trying to push GK rumours when we have Dubravka.

> GK is the one position I'd say we are ok in. Got to prioritise other positions first!!

Henderson rose through the youth ranks to the fringes of United’s first-team in 2020/21 and has gone on to make [27 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dean-henderson/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/258919) in all competitions, conceding 23 goals with 13 clean sheets.

He’s featured in only [one game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dean-henderson/leistungsdaten/spieler/258919) this season, however, so he’s likely to consider his options in January as his international prospects are drying up.

Newcastle are the [richest club in Europe](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/12428222/newcastle-takeover-how-and-why-newcastle-are-on-the-verge-of-becoming-one-of-the-worlds-richest-football-clubs) following their [takeover](https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/pif-pcp-capital-partners-and-rb-sports-media-acquire-newcastle-united-football-club/) by Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, but they have a more fervent need to strengthen other areas.

Fans don’t believe they need Henderson unless one or two goalkeepers are offloaded, so it remains to be seen if the *Daily Mail’s* story has much truth to it.
