Fans on social media praise ‘terrific’ Isaac Hayden for ‘brilliant’ performance

Newcastle United drew 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening and Isaac Hayden was singled out by supporters on social media for his performance.

The 26-year-old impressed in midfield, breaking up the play and frequently turning over possession, but he also bagged the equalising goal so his contribution was big on the day.

Against Brighton, Hayden played for 90 minutes, had 46 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 84.4% of his 32 passes, scored one goal from two shots, made five tackles, gave away two fouls, made one interception and drew one freekick.

The former England U21 international has made 10 Premier League appearances this season, playing nearly every minute of every game under Steve Bruce and caretaker Graeme Jones. Hayden looked destined to leave Newcastle when he was seeking a move closer to his family, but he ended up committing his future in September 2020 and has been an excellent servant.

Unfortunately, Saturday’s 1-1 draw doesn’t change Newcastle’s situation much – they’re still 19th in the Premier League and without a win this season. Hayden’s equaliser does buy the Magpies a point but doesn’t haul them from the relegation zone.
