After Unai Emery rejected the chance to manage Newcastle United, Eddie Howe was the next in line. Supporters on social media weren’t initially thrilled at the prospect of 43-year-old taking charge as he didn’t have Emery’s CV, but it does appear many are warming to the idea now.
Pete Graves of Sky Sports said on Thursday morning that talks between Howe and Newcastle were ‘intensifying’ and that the Magpies were ‘impressed’ by his vision for the club, so fans now believe he could be the right appointment.
Newcastle are only at the beginning of their project, so Howe is better suited to haul them from the relegation zone and stabilise the club. The former Bournemouth manager has 12 years of experience as a coach and kept the Cherries in the Premier League for five seasons after winning promotion in 2015.
Howe was criticised for his recruitment at Bournemouth which will be a sticking point for Newcastle fans as the Toon Army are expected to spend heavily in January following their takeover, but is Howe likely to be a stepping stone appointment or something long-term?
