Fans on social media react as Newcastle are linked with Ross Barkley

Newcastle United have lucrative resources for transfers in January after their takeover by Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, so they’re being linked with a host of players.

The latest name on Newcastle’s shortlist is Ross Barkley, according to 90min. Burnley and Leeds United are also showing interest in the 27-year-old, so the Magpies may have stiff competition for his signature.

Barkley joined Chelsea from Everton in January 2018 and has gone on to make 89 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals with 11 assists. The England international has been short of form and playing time at Stamford Bridge, however, so his future is up in the air.

Barkley started only 13 Premier League games in 2018/19 and 13 Premier League games in 2019/20. He didn’t start any league games for Chelsea in 2020/21 and is on the periphery this season too. It’s why he’s expected to leave in January and some fans on social media support the move.

Newcastle are now the richest club in Europe, so they’re able to match any asking price and wage demands of their transfer targets, but time will tell if Barkley is on their radar or just one of many players they’re looking at.
