Newcastle United’s takeover by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media means they are now the richest club in the world, so significant investment is expected into the playing squad. The latest claim from RMC Sport says that Newcastle want Wesley Fofana from Leicester.
The 20-year-old joined the Foxes from AS Saint-Etienne last October and has gone on to make 38 appearances in all competitions, picking up one assist. Fofana has clearly impressed enough at the King Power Stadium to get Newcastle’s interest, but fans on social media aren’t convinced he’ll make the switch.
Fofana has four years remaining on his deal at Leicester and appears happy in the Midlands, but his leg injury is likely to rule out a transfer for the time being. The French U21 international broke his leg during a pre-season friendly at the beginning of August and underwent surgery that will keep him out until 2022.
Newcastle might be barking up the wrong tree targeting Fofana right now, so time will tell if they make an official move when the winter transfer window opens in January.
