Fabian Schar posts on Instagram after successful international break

Switzerland enjoyed a successful international break, winning both their World Cup European qualifiers without conceding a single goal, and Fabian Schar marked the occasion with a post on Instagram.

The 29-year-old had been an unused substitute in both of September’s qualifiers but played in both games this month and did his part to shut out the opposition one after the other.

Schar even notched two assists at centre-back, so he was unsurprisingly delighted with how October went. The Swiss international will hope he can replicate the winning run at club level, as Newcastle United have yet to beat a Premier League this season.

The Magpies are 19th in the table with three points after seven games, having failed to beat West Ham United (2-4), Aston Villa (0-2), Southampton (2-2), Manchester United (1-4), Leeds United (1-1), Watford (1-1), Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-2), so Friday’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur is a big one.

Schar hasn’t been a regular under Steve Bruce this season, making two league appearances, so he’ll hope his international form will boost his chances of featuring against Spurs.

Ciaran Clarke and Federico Fernandez partnered one another against Wolves, but Newcastle are still winless and without a clean sheet, so change might yield a different outcome.
