Newcastle United do not feel that criticism for manager Steve Bruce is fair claims Shield Gazette reporter Liam Kennedy, despite not backing him in the transfer window.
After flirting with relegation last season, Bruce received a vast amount of criticism for Newcastle’s performances and style of play during games.
Despite finishing 12th and ending the season positively, many Newcastle fans were still unhappy with how the club was being managed.
Now, after two defeats in their opening two games and a lack of signings, Magpie fans are still frustrated going into the final week of the summer transfer window.
After Liam Kennedy spoke to Read Newcastle, it was revealed that the club feel that criticism directed at their manager Steve Bruce is “unfair”, despite them not backing him in the transfer window this summer.
On the matter, Kennedy said: “I know the club themselves think the criticism of Bruce is unfair. They’re partly to blame for that as well.
“If there is an area I feel sorry for him [Bruce] it would be this summer. They haven’t really backed him but there’s time. Let’s hope they do see sense and think that the table has been kicked into the long grass. It’s time to back the man that we rate, we being the club by the way, and that we want to stay as our football manager.”
Newcastle have only made one summer signing so far, after it was confirmed that Joe Willock would sign on a permanent transfer from Arsenal for £25million. Willock spent the second half of last season with the Magpies.
