Shields Gazette reporter Liam Kennedy admits that he can understand why some fans are venting their frustration towards Steve Bruce.
The Magpies kicked off their season opener with a dramatic 4-2 loss to West Ham United last weekend, which has led to more criticism from the fan base towards Steve Bruce.
After replacing Rafael Benitez, who was a fan favourite at the club, as first-team manager in 2019, Bruce has only won 29 out of 89 matches at Newcastle.
The club also went 11 games without a win in all competitions over a busy Christmas schedule, crashing out of both cup competitions and leaving themselves drifting around the relegation zone.
Having said that, Bruce has helped Newcastle avoid two relegation battles since joining the club.
He even guided them to a 12th placed finish last season – despite receiving a large amount of criticism for their poor form and style of play.
Speaking about some of the issues going on at St. James’ Park at the moment Newcastle reporter Liam Kennedy told Read Newcastle: “I can understand fan frustrations, they’ve been locked out of grounds for the best part of 18 months and they haven’t had much opportunity to vent their frustrations towards the manager.
“I think that because of the poor level of play, the perceived lack of tactical awareness, the gifting of points to teams, there is a lot of frustration kicking around in the fan base.”
Having made only one major summer signing so far, the arrival of Joe Willock for £27million from Arsenal, fans continue to pile pressure on the club to deliver a season where a relegation battle is not in the picture.
