There will be concerns for Newcastle if Bruce doesn’t add a striker this summer, exclaims Shield Gazette reporter Liam Kennedy.
As the summer transfer window draws to a close, Newcastle fans are beginning to panic.
So far the Magpies have only made one signing, with the arrival of former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock for £25million.
Now, after the release of striker Andy Carroll a few weeks ago, fans are continuing to get more frustrated with the club’s lack of investment into the squad.
According to the Shield Gazette, manager Steve Bruce believes that they have enough cover upfront already.
Newcastle still have four strikers at his disposal, as well as the services of Miguel Almiron who can operate in the no.9 position.
However, reporter Liam Kennedy suggests that beyond their starting two strikers, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin, there is a cause for concern.
He told Read Newcastle: “Newcastle have enough numbers. The numbers aren’t the problem even with dropping Carroll off that list, they had one too many last year.
“Even if they sign a striker, if those two are fit [Wilson and Saint-Maximin] they will start. It’s beyond that, that you then have some concerns.”
Despite producing a relatively promising attacking display in their 4-2 defeat to West Ham at the weekend, fans are crying out for some more signings before the transfer window slams shut.
If Steve Bruce does have his transfer priorities wrong this summer, then Newcastle could be looking at another turbulent ride in the Premier League this season.
