# Newcastle given transfer boost for Willock as speculation on Twitter intensifies

Joe Willock has an uncertain future at Arsenal this summer as he’s not commanding a starting place and Newcastle are one of many clubs interested in procuring his signature.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at St James’ Park and greatly impressed under Steve Bruce, but the [Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/19385785.newcastles-hopes-signing-willock-will-affected-arsenals-smith-rowe-talks/) said last week that Arsenal will only let him go if Emile Smith-Rowe signs a new contract.

An update from [Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-arsenal-trigger-deals-20894593) has given Newcastle hope of landing their man, however, as they believe Arsenal need the money generated from player sales for their pursuit of Ben White from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Gunners are closing in on a £50m deal for the centre-back and could do with the [£30m](https://readnewcastle.com/2021/06/02/steve-howey-tells-newcastle-not-to-pay-30m-for-joe-willock/) Willock would generate, so they might be open to a sale. Newcastle want the midfielder permanently, but it remains to be seen if they’ll match the asking price.

With [Leicester City](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1451999/Arsenal-news-Edu-James-Maddison-transfer-30m-sweetener-opinion-comment) also interested in Willock there’s a lot of speculation on [social media](https://twitter.com/search?q=joe%20willock&src=typed_query&f=live) about where he’ll end up, but Newcastle aren’t giving up their pursuit by a long shot.
