Andy Carroll is expected to leave Newcastle United in the coming weeks as his contract is up at the end of June and he spent last season on the periphery. The Magpies are expected to bring in at least one replacement for the 32-year-old and one name being floated on social media by Chronicle Live is Josh King.
The 29-year-old spent last season at Everton but failed to make an impact so he’s being released this summer and will be available on a free transfer. King failed to score in 11 appearances at Goodison Park but did impress at Bournemouth in the past, so he might be useful for Newcastle.
Carroll scored just one goal in 22 games last season, so it’s easy to see why he’s being released. Chronicle Live note that Dwight Gayle has an uncertain future at St James Park too, however, so King could be one of a couple of strikers brought in by Steve Bruce.
Gayle scored just one goal in 20 games last season, so Newcastle desperately need to improve their firepower if they’re to stay away from the relegation zone in 2021/22.
