Andy Carroll is leaving Newcastle United at the end of the month and Dwight Gayle could be following him through the exit door, so the Magpies might be left with Callum Wilson and Joelinton in attack next season.
Joelinton only scored four goals in 31 Premier League games in 2020/21, so Steve Bruce might want to find an upgrade on the 24-year-old. Football League World say Newcastle have their sights set on Adam Armstrong following his prolific campaign at Blackburn Rovers – a former Magpie who left for Rovers in 2018.
There’s a lot of excitement among supporters on Twitter as the former England U21 international scored 28 goals and made five assists in 40 Championship games last season. Armstrong’s contract at Ewood Park is up in 12 months, so Blackburn might be forced to cash in now rather than lose him for nothing next year.
It remains to be seen where he’d fit in the Newcastle squad, however, as Wilson had a hand in 17 goals from 26 Premier League games last season, so he should be a regular if fit. Nevertheless, Armstrong will bring more goals to the frontline, so time will tell if the Toon Army end up procuring his signature.
In other news, Newcastle signed Yohan Cabaye on this day and he went on to play for PSG
