# Newcastle fans react to major takeover update from Luke Edwards

A number of[Newcastle United](https://readnewcastle.com/)supporters have reacted to the [latest update from The Telegraph reporter Luke Edwards](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/03/02/newcastle-united-suffer-huge-blow-relegation-fight-scans-confirm/?utm_content=sport&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1614678492)outlining that takeover talks have been paused until the Magpies’ relegation battle is decided.

The Magpies are in a very difficult situation now with their awful run of [eight defeats in their last 11 Premier League matches](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/scores-fixtures) having seeing them sleepwalk right into a relegation scrap.

Matters have been made far worse by injuries to all three of the club’s best-attacking players, with Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron o[ut until April](https://theathletic.com/news/newcastle-injuries-saint-maximin-almiron/elLqRQIIg9iu)and Calum Wilson still [sidelined as well](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56023542).

[Edwards’ latest report for The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/03/02/newcastle-united-suffer-huge-blow-relegation-fight-scans-confirm/?utm_content=sport&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1614678492) outlines that all takeover talks have now been put on hold by Mike Ashley’s main advisor Justin Barnes amid uncertainty over the club’s fate with them now locked in a relegation battle.

It is [believed that decision](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/03/02/newcastle-united-suffer-huge-blow-relegation-fight-scans-confirm/?utm_content=sport&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1614678492) was made in advance of the double injury blow to Saint-Maximin and Almiron, but those injuries have only served to cast more light on the massive issues the Magpies are now facing.

[The report also outlines that behind the scenes](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/03/02/newcastle-united-suffer-huge-blow-relegation-fight-scans-confirm/?utm_content=sport&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1614678492) there is a feeling that there is no point sacking Bruce at this late stage in the campaign.

Ashley has twice acted too late in terms of replacing managers in the Magpies’ previous two relegation campaigns under his ownership. That might be what saves Bruce’s job this time around.

**Newcastle fans react over Edwards’ revelations on Bruce and the takeover**

Many Newcastle fans were left angered by these revelations with them believing the club have just sat back and watched their current predicament build up until now it might be too late to change.

> Agree..no point sacking Bruce now… damage is done.

> I can see Bruce staying beyond the summer and being backed in the championship, it’s a painful existence

> If we lose at WBA, I think that Ashley will pull the trigger in the hope that someone else can give the place a lift

> Championship here we come. Thoroughly deserved as well. Club is a shambles and optimised by the owner and pathetic management on the playing side by Bruce

> Ashley has owned [#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) 14 years and i can’t think of one thing that he’s not messed up in that time. If Ashley thinks something is the right decision it is the opposite which is the right thing to do. Bruce should of gone 2 months ago, it’s the same mistakes over and over again.

> I see this as a real positive if true. No sense in Ashley halting talks which means its the buyers. That in turn means Ashley is now certain his fate rests in his managers results. For the 1st time, I think SB is under real pressure…I think he is gone after the next loss

> ‘No point in sacking Bruce’… he’s single handedly responsible for our predicament, worst manager in PL History, one of the worst in ours and also this is the 2nd worst managerial spell in his own career, he’s not a good coach and not even a good ‘man manager’ [https://t.co/3x0yIqNRGv](https://t.co/3x0yIqNRGv)

> I'm not buying this narrative that we have been cruising towards safety until this blow. We've been terrible all season and league position has been flattered by some very fortunate early results. If the regime has only just seen that Bruce is taking us down that is frightening.
