Newcastle talisman Callum Wilson has issued a positive update over his immediate future, indicating that he is recovering well from injury.
The striker has been in fine form in an otherwise-worrying season for the Magpies, with 10 league goals and five assists in just 21 Newcastle appearances this season.
Wilson was forced off with a hamstring injury during the dramatic 3-2 victory over Southampton earlier in the month but could play an integral role in the Magpies’ Premier League survival bid in March.
Newcastle are 17th, hovering just above the relegation zone and hoping that Fulham, who are immediately below Steve Bruce’s side, fail to continue their run of resurgent form this weekend.
Wilson will celebrate his 29th birthday on Saturday and will be looking to help his team as soon as possible at the apex of his prime footballing years.
The ex-Coventry and Bournemouth ace delivered a promising update depicting his promising progress, telling the Super 6 Podcast:
[Recovery is] going well. I’m taking my time without rushing things and putting myself at risk.
But I’m also working extremely hard to make sure I’m back, and I stay back once I’m fit again.

The firepower and form of Wilson could serve as an inspiring and morale-driving figure in the Newcastle dressing room as they strive to steer clear of relegation worries.
However, erring on the side of caution is no wrong move. Rushing Wilson back could risk aggravating his injury, thus having a deleterious effect on his availability as the Magpies enter a crucial period of the season.
