A number of Newcastle supporters have reacted to a report from The Telegraph claiming that Steve Bruce is set to recall Martin Dubravka to the starting line-up in place of Karl Darlow against Wolves on Saturday.
The Magpies head into the game in real need of picking up all three points, with their cushion to the relegation zone having been reduced to just three points by Fulham after a run of eight defeats in 10 league matches. Their form has not been helped by the lack of clean sheets, with just two in their last 15 matches.
Darlow has been a very capable performer for the Magpies so far this season when filling in for Dubravka, who missed most of the campaign through injury. However, he has been back on the bench for a while now, waiting for his chance to reclaim his number one berth. Darlow’s average of 3.5 saves per game (Sofascore) had even seen him catch the eye of the England management.
However, over the last few weeks, he has started to make some costly mistakes, with the first goal at Old Trafford as he was beaten on his near post a case in point. Dubravka offers greater leadership qualities and had been one of the Magpies’ best players over the last two years. The Telegraph reported that he is set to be restored to the team by Bruce for the crucial game against mid-table Wolves on Saturday night.
Newcastle fans react to Dubravka’s impending return
Many Newcastle fans support the planned recall of Dubravaka if indeed hes is restored by Bruce for the Wolves game. Most have acknowledged that Darlow has been impressive this term, but feel that the thime is right to restore Dubravka to the starting line-up.
