# Newcastle fans rage over Luke Edwards update on Steve Bruce’s future

A number of [Newcastle](https://readnewcastle.com/2021/02/22/manchester-united-3-1-newcastle-player-ratings/) supporters were left furious over the latest update from the Telegraph reporter Luke Edwards revealing that Mike Ashley has no intention of sacking [Steve Bruce](https://readnewcastle.com/?p=31555) any time soon and has the Magpies low on his current priorities.

The Magpies suffered another setback in their hopes of Premier League survival on Sunday night after suffering a 3-1 defeat away at Manchester United. That was their [eighth defeat in 10 league games](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/scores-fixtures) and means they are now sat precariously just three points clear of 18th-placed Fulham, who are in good form at the moment.

Newcastle have sleepwalked into relegation like this twice before under Ashley. In 2008/09, Alan Shearer could not save them having been handed an almost impossible task in the last few games of the season. Then there was the 2015/16 campaign when Steve McClaren was sacked far too late and subsequently the Magpies could not survive in the top flight under Rafa Benitez.

There have been a lot of questions asked about Bruce’s potential future over recent weeks, but he has remained optimistic that he can guide the Magpies to the [‘magic point mark’](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steve-bruce-responds-fulham-mind-19870889) for safety. However, that optimism is not at all being shared by the majority of supporters, some of whom described the owner’s stance as “disgraceful”.

[Edwards’ latest update on Twitter revealed](https://twitter.com/LukeEdwardsTele/status/1363834071340756997) that the Newcastle hierarchy have no plans to change managers at this stage, adding that the picture could change if Ashley were to directly intervene but claiming that will be unlikely as he is currently prioritising other business interests.

> Told again this morning from sources that [#nufc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/nufc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) are not considering a change in manager. Now this can change in a flash if Ashley intervenes but I’m told he remains hands off regarding decision making at club which is low on list of business priorities at the moment ?‍♂️

**Newcastle fans fume at Edwards update on Bruce situation**

Many Newcastle fans were perplexed by the fact that Bruce seems so secure in the job despite the Magpies’ woeful form, while some believe that relegation is going to be the club’s sorry fate.

> Relegation, under worst head coach in my 63 year lifetime, here we fall. Pathetic!!

> It does not matter if it’s high or low on their priorities as it’s now much too late!! Plus what manager worth his salt would want to come to such a dysfunctional football club.
