Newcastle fans react to Luke Edwards report on Joelinton’s future

Many Newcastle supporters have been reacting to a report from The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards suggesting that Joelinton is in the last chance saloon at St James’ Park over the next few weeks.

The £40m forward has failed to impress at St James’ Park since his move from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the summer of 2019, with the club having made a big mistake in signing the Brazilian and handing him the iconic number nine shirt, according to Magpies legend Alan Shearer.

Joelinton has been in and out of the starting line-up this term and he has only managed three goals in all competitions (Sofascore). His total return for the club currently stands at seven goals in 67 appearances.

The 24-year-old could be handed further opportunities in the starting line-up over the next couple of weeks, with Callum Wilson ruled out for up to eight weeks with a hamstring injury. Joelinton could duly get the chance to prove his worth in the starting line-up, but he will need to improve on his average of just 0.1 goals and 0.5 key passes per game (Sofascore).

The Telegraph revealed that the Magpies are going to hand the Brazilian one more chance to impress and show that he is worthy of a long-term future at the club, adding that they are prepared to cut their losses in the summer and sanction his exit if he fails to perform over the next few weeks.

The news was shared by Edwards on Twitter and it drew plenty of response from Newcastle supporters, with most agreeing that he has already been handed enough chances and that he should be allowed to leave the club in the summer, even if it is at a substantial loss.
