Newcastle fans react to Daniel Sturridge rumours

Many Newcastle United supporters have welcomed a report from 90min.com that the Magpies have been offered the chance to sign former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge on a free transfer.

The Magpies suffered a major setback recently with top scorer Callum Wilson ruled out of action for up to eight weeks with a hamstring issue. That leaves Steve Bruce with only Dwight Gayle, Andy Carroll and Joelinton to call upon as centre-forward options, and those three have found the net just once each in the Premier League so far this term.

Sturridge has been a free agent for nearly a year now, having left Turkish side Trabzonspor in March 2020. The 26-cap England international has been approached by both West Brom and Sheffield United and is keen to return to English football and the Premier League, according to 90min.com. The report added that the Magpies have also been offered the chance to sign him.

The 31-year-old was once among the most prolific forwards in England, but since he left Liverpool in the summer of 2019, he has managed to play just 11 league matches with Trabzonspor (Sofascore).

Newcastle fans excited by Sturridge rumours

Many Newcastle fans feel that it would make sense to bring in Sturridge on a short-term, pay-as-you-play deal if permissible, with their 25-man Premier League squad already confirmed.
