Many Newcastle United supporters have welcomed a report from Chronicle Live detailing that the Magpies are set to benefit from a 40% sell-on clause in Adam Armstrong’s contract were he to be sold in the summer.
Armstrong, who turns 24 today, is enjoying an excellent campaign for Blackburn and has started to fulfil the potential he showed at Newcastle before his £1.75m move to the Championship club in 2018. He has fired in 17 goals so far in the second tier (Sofascore), making him the second top scorer in the division behind former Magpies youth player Ivan Toney.
The striker attracted interest from West Ham in January and the Hammers considered making an £8m offer for him, but Blackburn were likely to have demanded a lot more than that despite his contract expiring in 2022. As reported by Chronicle Live, Newcastle will receive 40% of the fee for which he is eventually sold to another club, or they could even potentially re-sign him for a cheaper fee than other suitors could get.
Armstrong is reportedly interested in a return to Newcastle and the Magpies could sign him for less than any other club due to their sell-on clause. It will therefore be interesting to see whether the Magpies actually come in with an offer to re-sign him in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle fans react to Armstrong report
Many Newcastle fans were enthused by this latest update and suggested that the Magpies should make a move to re-sign Armstrong in the summer considering they can get him for less than other clubs.
Would be great to see him back and playing up top with Wilson #NUFC https://t.co/NidwWT6AJW

Yeah we should try to get Arma back. If we can pick up one of the best players in the Championship 40% cheaper than other PL clubs, we should definitely do that. Excellent Gayle replacement. #nufc https://t.co/zVnoyCX8PV

Should’ve taken advantage of it by buying him back in place of Carrol or Gayle.
