DeAndre Yedlin weighing up Galatasaray offer despite favouring Newcastle stay

Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin is weighing up the offer of a three-and-a-half-year deal from Turkish side Galatasaray, who are pushing him for a decision as the transfer deadline approaches, according to ESPN.

Yedlin has been the subject of intense speculation around his future over the last few weeks, with the 62-cap USA international having been ruled out of the last two games for the Magpies due to issues over his work permit. The right-back is set to see his £30,000-a-week deal with Newcastle expire in the summer and is therefore facing an uncertain future on Tyneside.

Yedlin’s preference has always been to commit his future to the Magpies and extend his stay at St James’ Park, according to ESPN. However, the defender recently revealed that he has not had any contact with the club over any potential new deal. That means he does not even know whether he has a future with Newcastle or needs to try and sort out a move elsewhere.

According to ESPN, Yedlin is now considering a move away from Newcastle and is weighing up the offer that has been put to him by Galatasaray. The Turkish club want him to make a decision on their offer, so the right-back will need to act fast to determine his future.

The way that Yedlin’s situation has been handled by the Magpies is indicative of the issues facing the club under the current ownership. The lack of communication to a player who has served the club well and always put the effort in over his 125 appearances has been very poor. The American can’t be blamed if he decides to make a big call over his future.

Given that Newcastle have not even contacted him about a new deal, he should strongly consider the offer on the table from Galatasaray. A three-and-a-half-year contract would give him a level of security which he does not have from Newcastle at the moment. It would also be a chance for him to establish himself as a first-choice right-back elsewhere.

Yedlin has been something of a victim of Steve Bruce’s indecision over his first choice for right-back. The 27-year-old started the campaign well out of the picture but has played six times in the current Premier League campaign (Sofascore).

However, his work permit issues and the growing uncertainty means he might just be best leaving the club and moving on.
