# Ex-Newcastle loanee Jetro Willems wanted by ‘clutch of clubs’ – including Magpies

Former [Newcastle](https://readnewcastle.com/2021/01/22/newcastle-major-mistake-losing-adam-armstrong-blackburn/) loanee [Jetro Willems](https://readnewcastle.com/2021/01/15/newcastle-offered-the-chance-to-sign-jetro-willems/) is wanted by a ‘clutch of Premier League clubs’, according to a report from the [Shields Gazette](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/jetro-willems-loan-move-agenda-newcastle-united-premier-league-clubs-consider-moves-3109032).

The Dutch defender saw his season-long loan spell cut short last season in traumatic circumstances [following a serious injury against Chelsea](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jetro-willems-says-newcastle-hold-18517917) but he is now back to fitness and looking for first team football after [struggling to force his way back](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jetro-willems-rejects-eintracht-frankfurt-19414489) into contention at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The [Shields Gazette](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/jetro-willems-loan-move-agenda-newcastle-united-premier-league-clubs-consider-moves-3109032) claimed that the Magpies have considered bringing Willems back to St James’ Park, a move which [would be of interest](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jetro-willems-newcastle-transfer-hint-19448454) to the 26-year-old as he seeks an escape from his Bundesliga purgatory.

However, the full-back’s [impressive displays](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jetro-willems/138828) at the start of last season have drawn the attention of other top-flight clubs as a number of unnamed sides are believed to be interested in offering Willems an opportunity this month.

Willems [hasn’t played competitively](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jetro-willems/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/146258) since the [injury he suffered](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/11912246/jetro-willems-steve-bruce-fears-cruciate-ligament-injury-in-latest-newcastle-setback) during Newcastle’s clash with Chelsea last January, ending his season on [20 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jetro-willems/leistungsdaten/spieler/146258/plus/0?saison=2019) in all competitions.

### READ NEWCASTLE VERDICT

Steve Bruce should be seriously considering bringing the Dutchman back to St James’ Park.

Despite spending £15m on Jamal Lewis in the summer, things [haven’t worked out](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jamal-lewis/891803) as planned for the former Norwich man, and [his recent injury](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-arsenal-injuries-fa-19557222) alongside [Paul Dummett’s repeated setbacks](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/12/20/newcastles-paul-dummett-came-close-quitting-prolonged-injury/#:~:text=After%20developing%20hamstring%20problems%20during,his%20future%20in%20the%20game.) have left Bruce short on options.

Should the Magpies let a domestic rival land Willems, it could be viewed as potentially a big miss.
