United States international DeAndre Yedlin has issued a challenge to the Newcastle hierarchy over where his future lies.
The American right-back has called for greater clarity as to whether he will be allowed to leave the club or whether he indeed does have a future on Tyneside.
He was made available for transfer last summer and garnered interest from Turkey, and his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Yedlin was clear in his demands for greater communication with the club, as the 27-year-old declared:
At this moment (I want) some clarity over whether Newcastle want me to stay or whether I can go.
Whatever it is, it’s something that needs to be talked about pretty quickly, because there’s six months left on my contract. If I’m going to leave Newcastle, there’s steps I need to take in terms of talking to other teams and things like that.
There’s been no clarity. My agent has reached out to people at Newcastle, and they’ve responded back saying ‘yes, we’ll call you’, and there are no calls back. That has been quite frustrating.
Yedlin has enjoyed a run in the team this season and has competed with the likes of Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo.

Given that he is the natural competitive choice to the likes of Manquillo, the American surely has to be no lower than second to the Spaniard in Bruce’s thinking.
His six appearances for Newcastle this season has shown that the manager has a willingness to trust the 27-year-old and still has a role to play at St James’ Park. Even if in a backup capacity, Yedlin will be vital to providing insurance to the club in terms of squad depth.
With Ciaran Clark having just signed a new two-year deal, Yedlin should be in with a chance of seeing his own terms extended. Krafth continues to see doubts swirling over his future, and so the American must surely be afforded a chance to compete for his future at the club.
