Many Newcastle United supporters have been enraged over a revelation from DeAndre Yedlin that he has had no communication from the club regarding his future at this stage, with his contract running down.
The American is entering the final few months of the £30,000-a-week, five-year deal he signed when he made the move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2016. It has been reported by Chronicle Live that the defender nearly left St James’ Park in the summer for another European club, but he eventually remained with Steve Bruce’s side.
The 27-year-old had been brought back into the starting line-up in the last few weeks, with Bruce switching to a 5-4-1 setup and deploying Yedlin as a right-wing-back. However, he was dropped for the trip to Arsenal on Monday night and instead it was Emil Krafth who came into the team as the formation reverted back to 4-4-2.
There have been reports linking the USA international with a move back to his homeland to join an MLS club, but any such move is yet to materialise. Yedlin has now revealed to CBS Sports HQ that he has not received any contact from Newcastle regarding his potential future and does not yet know what he should be planning in terms of where he will be next season:
One of the things that people think is you just go out and play and that’s our life but there’s a lot more to balance whether it be on the field or off the field.
Obviously with my situation currently I have six months left on my contract.
It has been a bit frustrating because me and my agent have had no communication with Newcastle at all about what their plans are for me, if I can go or if they want me to stay.
