Newcastle fans rage over latest Steve Bruce comments

A number of Newcastle United supporters have raged over candid comments made by Steve Bruce over his potential future in which he suggested he might be lacking in some managerial qualities but he will not give up.

Bruce has come under intense scrutiny over the last few weeks with the Magpies going through their worst period of the season. Newcastle have not won any of their last eight matches in all competitions and have been struggling to score goals, with just one in their last six matches (Transfermarkt).

That form has seen the Magpies slide down the Premier League table and they head into their meeting with Arsenal tonight just seven points clear of the relegation zone. It has been reported that, despite the scrutiny from many supporters, Bruce will retain Mike Ashley’s favour as long as they keep themselves out of the bottom three.

The pressure which has been piling up on Bruce was perhaps reflected by an honest assessment of the situation by the Magpies boss to the media ahead of the trip to Arsenal. He suggested that he always worked hard to overcome deficiencies as a player and that might be what he has to do at the moment as a manager.

In comments made to Chronicle Live and shared on Twitter by @NUFC360, he said: “I try not to read it because if I’m lower than a snake’s belly, how am I going to expect a reaction from the players? I made a career out of being bang average but worked hard and maybe that’s in management too where I’m not blessed with this, that and the other.”
