# Arsenal trio doubtful for Newcastle clash on Monday

[Newcastle](https://readnewcastle.com/2021/01/14/rob-holding-was-close-to-joining-newcastle-last-summer/) could have been handed a much-needed boost ahead of Monday night’s [Premier League meeting with Arsenal](https://www.skysports.com/newcastle-united-fixtures) at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace last night and their manager Mikel Arteta [confirmed](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/arsenal-injury-news-tierney-newcastle-19554653) that three of his players are doubts for the visit of the Magpies.

Gabriel Martinelli, Pablo Mari and Kieran Tierney could all miss the Newcastle clash with various problems – although the Brazilian striker is [likely to be touch-and-go](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/news/arsenal-injury-boost-gabriel-martinelli-19613025).

Toon manager [Steve Bruce](https://readnewcastle.com/2021/01/12/fans-rage-over-steve-bruce-comments-lejeune-future-loan/) could use all the positivity he can get his hands upon ahead of the meeting with Arteta’s side, as he has [come in for unforgiving criticism](https://www.themag.co.uk/2021/01/alan-shearer-admits-he-has-no-option-but-to-criticise-his-friend-steve-bruce-newcastle-united/)following the Magpies latest abject performance.

The defeat last time out against Sheffield United, the Blades’ [first league victory](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=274&ha=-1) of the season, left Newcastle [without a win eight matches](https://www.skysports.com/newcastle-united-results) and on a worrying slide [down the table](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=274&ha=-1).

However, Bruce has problems of his own as key attacking threat Allan Saint-Maximin [continues to struggle for fitness](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-allan-saint-maximin-covid-19622277) after suffering from Covid whilst Ryan Fraser will be suspended following [his dismissal](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-steve-bruce-fraser-19615721) against Sheffield United.

Tierney’s absence would perhaps be regarded as the [biggest loss](https://www.sofascore.com/player/kieran-tierney/366592) for the north London club and therefore be the biggest bonus for Newcastle.

That said, the [lack of attacking impetus](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9142237/How-low-Newcastle-Toon-fans-united-wanting-Steve-Bruce-spiral-drop.html) seen in recent Magpies performances suggests that the Arsenal defence still won’t come under a lot of threat, even with Tierney and Mari likely to miss out.
