# Newcastle fans react over major setback in pursuit of Brandon Williams

A number of Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to reports from [The Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/19000643.newcastle-end-interest-manchester-uniteds-brandon-williams/) that the Magpies have given up on the prospect of signing Manchester United defender [Brandon Williams](https://readnewcastle.com/?p=30261) on loan.

The Magpies have been [heavily linked](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-transfer-brandon-williams-19383434) with a potential move for Williams this month. [Reports](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/13634634/solskjaer-transfer-talks-man-utd-january-plans/?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_campaign=sunsporttwitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1609686002) had emerged that Manchester United were potentially open to the idea of him leaving Old Trafford on a temporary basis to get more first team minutes. The versatile full-back would have offered extra cover [at left-back and right-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brandon-williams/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/507700) and Steve Bruce was keen to bring him to the club.

It had been [reported](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-agree-framework-january-loan-deal-england-under-21-international-3085146) that Newcastle had managed to agree on the framework of a potential loan deal with Manchester United for Williams. However, the Red Devils were always likely to potentially reconsider their stance due to their hectic league and cup schedule.

That appears to have been what has happened, with [The Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/19000643.newcastle-end-interest-manchester-uniteds-brandon-williams/) reporting that Newcastle have been informed that Manchester United want to keep hold of the versatile full-back this month now. The report also revealed that the Magpies have suffered a further blow on the loan front, with Chelsea deciding to keep hold of Fikayo Tomori.

### **Newcastle fans react as Brandon Williams pursuit ends**

Some Newcastle fans were frustrated that the Magpies had wasted time trying to sort out a potential deal for Williams, while others were hopeful that this could potentially step up any attempts to [try and bring Jetro Willems back](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jetro-willems-rejects-eintracht-frankfurt-19414489) to the club.

> So we’ve wasted 10 days of the transfer window chasing someone on loan who isn’t available for loan
