# Newcastle fans react to potential pairing of Callum Wilson and Andy Carroll

Plenty of Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to Steve Bruce’s  [suggestion](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/andy-carroll-callum-wilson-partnership-19572900) that he is contemplating starting both [Callum Wilson](https://readnewcastle.com/2020/12/14/newcastle-fans-loved-callum-wilson-footage-west-brom/) and [Andy Carroll](https://readnewcastle.com/2021/01/07/newcastle-fans-andy-carroll-west-brom-transfer-links/) together up front over the next few matches.

The Magpies have been struggling for goals during what has been the most challenging period in their season so far. Despite holding Liverpool to a goalless draw at St James’ Park recently, the Magpies have failed to win [any of their last six matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/spielplandatum/verein/762) in all competitions and it took a [late goal from Carroll](https://www.skysports.com/football/newcastle-vs-leicester/report/429003) off the bench against Leicester to end a six-hour goal drought for the Tynesiders.

Bruce has [come under intense scrutiny](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/12172993/steve-bruce-mass-hysteria-to-newcastles-bad-week-was-unjust) from many Newcastle supporters since the defeat to Brentford in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, but he still [retains the full support](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/11/22/steve-bruce-retains-full-backing-support-newcastle-united-despite/)of owner Mike Ashley. The Magpies manager could do with a positive outcome against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Saturday to lift some of the pressure on his shoulders.

Over the last few weeks, Bruce has [persisted with Joelinton](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joelinton/leistungsdaten/spieler/333241) in the starting line-up as the main support to Wilson up front. However, the Brazilian has [struggled to make much of an impact](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joelinton/leistungsdaten/spieler/333241); and after scoring from the bench against Leicester, Carroll has given his boss something to think about for the Arsenal clash.

Speaking to [Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/andy-carroll-callum-wilson-partnership-19572900) ahead of the trip to the Emirates Stadium, Bruce revealed that he is considering starting the 32-year-old alongside Wilson over the next few weeks in a bid to give the Magpies  more of a threat in the final third.

### **Newcastle fans react to potential Andy Carroll-Callum Wilson partnership**

Many Newcastle fans were left thinking that nothing else has really made the Magpies capable of causing problems in attack and it is therefore worth trying a Carroll-Wilson double act. However, there were some supporters who did not see the positives in that change, with one fan labelling Bruce as ‘clueless’ for suggesting it.

> Our best display of the season was away to west ham with Carroll and Wilson up front, followed by our home win over Everton, big Joe didn't figure in these 2 games?

> Being honest I think Carroll's a lucky man to be anywhere close to being involved at Premier League level. He's not bee effective at all in my eyes. But that said if he's fit then why not give him a last chance? Nothing else has worked.

> Yes… it should be given a chance as it offers more variety. We know we will only get a good 60-70 mins out of Carroll but then we simply bring on Gayle.. Joelinton is just simply not a premier league player…An investigation should be done to see how the club paid 40m for him!

> Bruce literally has no clue does he.. simply swapping players about in the hope that we "take care of the ball better" clueless
