# Newcastle fans react to Brandon Williams loan update

A number of Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the latest report from the [Shields Gazette](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-agree-framework-january-loan-deal-england-under-21-international-3085146) that the Magpies have agreed the framework over a potential loan move for Manchester United’s [Brandon Williams](https://readnewcastle.com/?p=30261).

Williams enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford last season and he showed his quality by averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.9 successful dribbles and 0.8 key passes per game ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/williams-brandon/927368)).

However, he has made just one Premier League appearance so far this season, while he has featured twice in their unsuccessful Champions League group stage campaign and twice in the Carabao Cup ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/williams-brandon/927368)). Williams has also been [linked](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/13488754/brandon-williams-southamptoin-man-utd-newcastle-january-loan-transfer/) with a potential move to Southampton, while Bayern Leverkusen are said to be interested as well, according to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/13519192/man-utd-brandon-williams-leverkusen/).

Newcastle have been [linked](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-transfer-brandon-williams-19383434) with a potential move for the full-back and it has now emerged that Steve Bruce could be closing in on his [first signing of the January transfer window](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/transfers/verein/762/plus/0?saison_id=2020&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=w). Manchester United are prepared for him to leave on loan and have agreed the framework for a potential temporary move to St James’ Park, as reported by [Shields Gazette](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-agree-framework-january-loan-deal-england-under-21-international-3085146).

### **Newcastle fans react to Brandon Williams update**

Many Newcastle fans were sceptical over the need to sign Williams and were disappointed that it likely spells the end of Jetro Willems’ [rumoured return to Tyneside](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jetro-willems-rejects-eintracht-frankfurt-19414489). However, some supporters would welcome the potential arrival of the Manchester United youngster on loan – one fan believes he would be an ugrade on Magpies full-back Jamal Lewis, who has [faced strong criticism](https://readnewcastle.com/2020/12/23/newcastle-fans-slam-jamal-lewis-performance-brentford/) since his arrival from Norwich last summer.
