A number of Newcastle United fans have reacted to a report from The Telegraph that the Magpies are set to have no money to spend during the January transfer window.
The Magpies are going through a challenging period at the moment, with the 2-0 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday the third in their last four matches in all competitions. That has seen the pressure being ramped up on Steve Bruce, who has defended himself by saying that Premier League survival is the team’s objective for the season.
At the moment, the Magpies are on track to at least ensure they stay up, but they are only seven points clear of the relegation zone and could get drawn into a survival battle if their current form continues. Bruce had been hoping to add to his squad in the January window and they have been linked with moves for Manchester United defenders Brandon Williams and Phil Jones.
Newcastle have also been reportedly interested in adding to their midfield options, with Dele Alli perhaps surprisingly being linked with a move to Tyneside. However, journalist Luke Edwards has claimed that they are set to have no funds available, which could potentially impact their chances of bringing in players in January unless it is on a loan deal.
Newcastle fans react to January transfer setback
Many Newcastle fans on Twitter were left frustrated that they will likely need to persevere with their current squad, although some were pleased with Mike Ashley’s decision not to back Bruce in the market.

No surprise Mike won't spend. But would you give Bruce your money? I wouldn't if I was an owner. I wouldn't have him as a coach.

Does this matter? Who would you trust him to buy and coach? We've got to start living in the real world here…

Great another excuse added to the list

Well that's that then, if they can't add any new players then the only thing that can change is the manager.

I’m actually really glad about this. He’s spent a fortune and we’ve gone backwards. Don’t let him waste any more.
