# Newcastle fans react to latest Bin Zayed Group takeover drama

A number of Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to [reports](https://theathletic.co.uk/2260813/2020/12/15/derby-takeover-sheikh-khaled/) that the potential takeover of Derby County by the [Bin Zayed Group](https://readnewcastle.com/?p=30068) has hit a fresh stumbling block.

The Bin Zayed Group were heavily [linked](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/takeover-never-was-bin-zayed-19234285) with a proposed takeover of Newcastle, but a deal between them and Mike Ashley never materialised. The Magpies have since been the attempt of another hitherto unsuccessful takeover bid by the Saudi-based Public Investment Fund, although there is more hope that the deal could be rescued, with a [legal arbitration process underway](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/what-comes-next-newcastle-takeover-19313324) at the moment.

The consortium involved in the Bin Zayed Group have turned their attentions to Championship strugglers Derby, and it had been [reported](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8981693/Steve-McClaren-Derby-FOURTH-spell-appointed-Technical-Director.html) that potential takeover of the club was close. They have also [reportedly](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8981693/Steve-McClaren-Derby-FOURTH-spell-appointed-Technical-Director.html) played a role in the recent appointment of former Newcastle manager Steve McClaren to the position of technical director.

However, [The Athletic](https://theathletic.co.uk/2260813/2020/12/15/derby-takeover-sheikh-khaled/) have reported that the takeover of Derby is now in doubt following the revelation that Sheikh Khaled still owes around more than £500,000 to a law firm for the work they put into trying to get the takeover of Newcastle going last year.

### **Newcastle fans react to Bin Zayed Group takeover latest**

Many Newcastle fans were quick to point out that they believe the Magpies have dodged a major bullet with regards to avoiding being taken over by the Bin Zayed Group. One supporter even suggested that the [much-maligned](https://www.theguardian.com/news/audio/2019/aug/09/in-black-and-white-why-newcastle-united-fans-want-mike-ashley-out-podcast) Tyneside owner Mike Ashley deserves credit for distancing himself from BZG.
