A number of Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a prediction from Sky Sports pundit Lewis Jones, who has claimed that Leeds will have far too much for the Magpies in their Elland Road clash on Wednesday evening.
Newcastle head into the game three points above their opponents after overcoming all of the issues surrounding their squad over the last fortnight to beat West Brom 2-1 on Saturday. That performance and result demonstrated that Steve Bruce’s side still have enough quality available to them to pick up valuable points, and their squad will be strengthened further with the return of Federico Fernandez.
However, Leeds represent a different sort of challenge to the one they faced against West Brom, with the Whites often dominant in possession and looking to wear down their opponents with a high intensity. That means Bruce’s side will need to be at their best and stay concentrated for the full 90 minutes if they are to pick up another positive result.
BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has also backed Leeds to overcome Newcastle on Wednesday. That prediction was matched by Jones, who suggested they will have too much quality for the Magpies to handle and has predicted a 3-1 defeat for Bruce’s men.
Newcastle fans react to Leeds predictions
Some Newcastle fans were in agreement that Leeds will represent a tough challenge for the Magpies, although there were others who believed that the Whites’ style might play into their hands a little. One supporter even described Leeds as being an ‘overhyped’ team.
They aren’t lying. They’ll wack us 3 or 4.

Comfortable win for a team 3 points below us having played one extra game. Massively overhyped team.

Depends how we play. Think we have defence to stop Bamford but we must stop the service to him first. Stop the crosses and through balls, or force him wide and we should be good. Our quick counter could be devastating here though

Their high press will highlight our terrible passing and struggle to keep the ball, on the other hand, it plays to our “hoof it long and hope a pacey player reaches it” strength.
