A number of Newcastle United fans have been reacting to footage of Callum Wilson halting a counter-attack by West Brom on Saturday in the Magpies’ 2-1 win at St James’ Park.
Steve Bruce’s side faced a difficult challenge against the Baggies, with the Magpies missing a number of first-team players who were in self-isolation. However, they managed to record an important victory to move themselves up the table and open an 11-point gap between them and Slaven Bilic’s strugglers.
Newcastle were still able to call upon arguably their most important player in Wilson on Saturday, and although he didn’t score, he delivered an overall impressive display. The 28-year-old completed two successful dribbles and made one key pass (Sofascore) and was constantly pressuring West Brom’s defence.
Footage has now emerged on Twitter of Wilson preventing the Baggies from taking a free-kick swiftly as they were in search of an equaliser, thus buying his team a few valuable seconds towards the end of a tight match.
Newcastle fans react to Callum Wilson footage
Many Newcastle fans were quick to point out the importance of having a player of Wilson’s quality to be able to indulge in a little gamemanship. One supporter even suggested tongue-in-cheek that it was their favourite Magpies moment in the last ten years.

This is what’s missing from the other players. The Man U 2nd goal against us came after our free kick where there was a “cute” foul by them.. they broke away and scored because we didn’t make the “cute” foul.
