# Newcastle fans beg Salomon Rondon to come back after social media message

A number of Newcastle United fans have been urging former Magpies forward [Salomon Rondon](https://readnewcastle.com/2018/09/14/newcastle-predicted-xi-arsenal-h-2/salomon-rondon-3/) to make a return to St James’ Park after his latest message to supporters on social media.

Rondon was a [hugely popular figure](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/salomon-rondon-gets-emotional-newcastle-18213686) among many Newcastle supporters during the 2018/19 campaign, having arrived on a season-long loan deal from West Brom. The 31-year-old led the line brilliantly under Rafa Benitez  and posted an impressive tally of 11 Premier League goals as well as seven assists ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/salomon-rondon/35532)) in his only season with the Magpies.

The Venezuela international formed an effective partnership with Miguel Almiron and Ayoze Perez during the second half of the 2018/19 season, with the trio helping to establish the Magpies as [one of the form teams in the division](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/spielplan/verein/762/plus/0?saison_id=2018) during the latter stages of Benitez’s final year in charge at St James’ Park.

However, Newcastle decided against making a permanent move for Rondon after Benitez had left the club, and the striker instead [linked up with the Spaniard again](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jul/19/salomon-rondon-leaves-west-brom-rafael-benitez-dalian-yifang-china) in China. The Magpies had not adequately replaced him until Callum Wilson’s arrival in the summer and the ex-Bournemouth man is now their [chief outlet for goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/leistungsdaten/verein/762).

Rondon [took to Twitter](https://twitter.com/salorondon23/status/1336761812793094145) on Wednesday to share a message with supporters on the club’s 128th anniversary, declaring it had been an ‘honour’ to wear the number nine shirt at St James’ Park.

### **Newcastle fans react to Salomon Rondon’s message**

Many Newcastle fans were keen to point out how good the Venezuelan was during his one season with the club, while others urged him to make a return in the near future with the belief that he could forge a ‘deadly’ partnership with Wilson in attack.

> Imagine rondon and wilson upfront with ASM fraser almiron shelvey feeding them
